The Laguna de los Cóndores or Laguna de las Momias is a lagoon of about 1 km² in length that is located in the department of Amazonas in the Andes of northern Peru. It is located at an altitude of 2,600 meters above sea level, 93 km from the capital of the province, Chachapoyas, and a day’s walk or 45 km from the town of Leimebamba, in the homonymous district.
Mausoleums
Around this lagoon there is an archaeological site, discovered in 1997. It includes some mausoleums that housed funerary bundles with various offerings (gold objects and handicrafts). The more than 200 recovered mummies have been identified as belonging to the Chachapoyas, Chachapoya-Inca, and Early Colonial cultures.
