The Gocta waterfall , known locally as La Chorrera , is a waterfall found in the vicinity of the Peruvian hamlets of San Pablo, Cocachimba and La Coca, Valera district, Bongará province, Amazonas department in northeastern Peru .
There are several legends about this waterfall: one is related to the curse of a beautiful blonde-haired mermaid who, helped by a giant snake, guards a pot of gold, in another version this mermaid harassed men, enchanting them with her beauty, and then drag them into the depths. Another legend tells of the local Juan Mendoza who disappeared enchanted by the rocks behind the waterfall.
